CHAIN (China America Innovation Network) aims to help entrepreneurs transform innovation into value through knowledge and resource exchange between U.S. and China. Our mission is to build a multinational ecosystem of mentors, experts, professionals, and peers based in U.S. and China that will enable entrepreneurs to realize their entrepreneurial ambitions by accessing resources from both U.S. and China.

As a non-profit organization, we are powered by a team of passionate volunteers, successful entrepreneurs, experienced executives, business operations professionals and engineering wizards. Founded in 2011, the CHAIN network now connects thousands of members in both Silicon Valley and China.

Frank Shi 施煜

Frank_big Chairman of Board

Frank is a volunteer, co-founder and former president (2011-2013) of CHAIN, where he drove the overall organization strategy and development. Frank has a regular job too, working as a Chief Architect at Visa and responsible for and managed the development of multiple large commercial and enterprise product platforms. Prior to Visa, he was Vice President of eFORCE, where he and his organization developed multiple banking and trading platforms for some top US banks and mutual fund companies. Prior to eFORCE, he was a developer at Sabre, where he and others developed the foundational platform of Travelocity.

Favorite thing outside of work: Traveling and sightseeing with family and friends.

Chen Peng 彭晨


As the co-founder, former president (2013-2015), and current board member of CHAIN, Chen is a passionate promoter of technology innovation and entrepreneurship as well as the cross-cultural communication between U.S. and China. At CHAIN, Chen was responsible for the overarching strategy of long-term development and also ran the daily operations with other members in the leadership team. Chen previously served as the director of marketing (2011-2012) , EVP of marketing & product (2012-2013), and president (2013-2015) in the organization.

Chen Currently works at Uber as a senior data scientist; before Uber Chen worked at Google’s Cloud infrastructure & platform division as a quantitative analyst for many years.

Chen holds a B.Eng. degree in Information Technology (Automatic Control) from Zhejiang University and a PhD in Management Science & Engineering from Stanford.

Datong Chen 陈大同

datong_bigDatong is the Co-Founder and Managing Director of WestSummit Capital.

Datong has more than 20 years of investment and operational experience in the technology industry. He is the co-founder and managing director of WestSummit Capital, the first private equity firm sponsored by the most prestigious financial institution in China focused on growth-stage technology companies. Prior to WestSummit, Datong was a Venture Partner at Northern Light Venture Capital, a leading technology VC fund, where he led investments in the semiconductor industry.

Before pursuing the investment career, Datong was a successful serial entrepreneur and co-founded and brought two companies to IPO. He was the Co-Founder and CTO of Spreadtrum Communications (NASDAQ: SPRD), a leading fabless semiconductor company that develops baseband and RF processor solutions for the 2G/3G/4G wireless communications market, and Co-Founder and Senior VP for Omnivision (NASDAQ: OVTI), a leading developer of CMOS imaging sensor.

Datong holds his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Tsinghua University while completed his post-Doctoral research at Stanford University. He also holds B.S.E.E., an M.S.E.E., and an EE degree in Electrical Engineering from Tsinghua University.

Eugenia Rao

Eugenia is a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers and she has over 16 years of experience and specializes in providing tax consulting services to US and Chinese multinationals.

Eugenia leads the PwC Chinese Business Network (including China, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong) in California which was created to provide enhanced, integrated, and on-the-ground worldwide support for US and Chinese multinationals. Eugenia also leads the Technology Sector for the US Inbound Asian Enterprises and she also has experience in various industries including, distribution, entertainment, manufacturing and retail industries.

Eugenia is bicultural and fluent in Mandarin and English, having spent over 15 years in Asia and worked in the Taipei office for 2 years where she helped build a US tax practice. Eugenia also worked in the New York office (US headquarters) for 18 months as the Chief of Staff for the PwC US Tax Leader.

Eugenia has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master of Science degree in Taxation from Golden Gate University.

In her spare time, Eugenia likes to play badminton, golf, ski and scuba dive and is involved with church and non-profit organization activities.

Tao Li 李涛

Founder & CEO, APUS Group

In June 2014, Mr. Li Tao resigned from Qihoo 360 to start APUS, which is dedicated to provide the best mobile Internet services to the world’s 3 billion mobile phone users. The first product APUS launched was APUS Launcher, which became the miracle of this industry—-online for 7 months, reached 100 million users with 80 million MAU. In December 2014, APUS closed Series B round of over 100 million USD investments. Li Tao is former vice President Qihoo 360, “the father of 360 mobile guard”. He was in charge of the 360 wireless businesses and international business, leading the 360 wireless team, created 360 wireless Internet business line, and launched 360 mobile guards and a number of mobile Internet applications. In 3 years, 360 mobile guards reached “0” to “600 million” users, more than 70% market share, became the first brand of mobile security of China. At the same time, 360’s undisputed leading position in the mobile industry in China was established.

Lu Wang


Lu has worked in IT for more than 15 years in various roles. He currently works as an IT architect for Chevron to set up an internal cloud. Before that, he was an enterprise architect at Safeway. Prior to Safeway, he worked for a few start up companies in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Lu believes in CHAIN’s mission to provide members with the right opportunities and resources to help bring their innovation to fruition.

At CHAIN, Lu’s main responsibility is to ensure CHAIN maximize value delivery to members and partners by hosting events addressing their interests. Lu previously served as VP of Event Management in the organization (2013-2015).

Lu graduated from University of Pennsylvania with a BSE in Computer Science & Engineering with a minor degree in Psychology.

Favorite things to do outside of work: reading and photography.

YunHao Xu

Co-founder & EVP, Operations & Finance

A goal-oriented engineer with 15 years of experiences on research and new product development in a wide range of industries from consumer electronics to health care; An aspiring leader with a proved record of founding and managing new businesses and professional organizations to facilitate innovation and promote entrepreneurship; An accomplished scientist with more than 20 publications in peer-reviewed journals and 10 technical presentations in international conferences on nanotechnology.

YunHao holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from University of Minnesota.

Philip Hong


Philip is a software product visionary and engineering wizard. He is the major contributor to the development of CHAIN’s website and some other technical properties.

Philip holds a master degree in computer science from the University of Southern California.



Wei Nie

Chief Talent Officer

Wei serves as the Chief Talent Officer at CHAIN, focusing on bridging the Chinese entrepreneur community with resources and funding in Silicon Valley to maximize technology innovation.

Wei is a Business Analyst Staff in Lean Corporate Initiatives Group at Cypress Semiconductor. He joined the firm in 2010 and led, studied and implemented a series of initiatives focusing on enhancing business operation efficiency. His arena covers lean product launch process, sales force performance improvement and lean G&A spending. Before joining Cypress, Wei accelerated his career in KPCB China and McKinsey, where he received intensive training in constructive problem solving and business operation theory and analysis.

Wei graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology –Shanghai Jiaotong University dual master degree program in electrical computer engineering. He received his bachelor degree in electronic information engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology. He also was the national champion of China Electronic System Design Contest and CFA China scholarship awardee.

Chenhao holds a master degree from Stanford Law School.

Jingjian Ren

Director of Business Development, Global

Jingjian has more than 6 years of research experience in the area of semiconductor electronics, with emphasis on non-volatile memory devices and their data storage applications. He currently works as a senior device engineer at SanDisk, where his cross-functional role involves advanced NAND flash memory technology R&D and various product development.

At CHAIN, previously Jingjian served as event program manager, responsible for the planning, organization and coordination of events which directly delivered value to CHAIN’s members and partners. In his new role of business development, Jingjian works to further extend the organization’s efforts to both the US and China entrepreneur community to promote cross-border innovation.

Jingjian got his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from University of California, Riverside in 2012. Prior to that, he graduated from Dalian University of Technology, China in 2008 with B.S. in Optical Information Science and Technology. He is a big fan of sports, reading and music/Karaoke.

Linna Li

Director of Business Development, Asia Pacific Region

A strategy-oriented thinker, she combines a strong design background and business development experience with strategic business innovation mind. She is passionate about bringing the meaningful design and value to business and enjoys fixing the complicated problems and seeking opportunities to make things simple and easy to comprehend. She learns and acquires knowledge by observing, listening and talking with others. She also loves high-level strategic exploration as well as implementing strategies to align firm behavior with mission.

Linna has 10 years of working experience in design consultancies from design research, concept, and design development to execution. She accumulated the international and local communication in Fortune 500 company and also founding partner for boutique design studio.

As the Director of Business Development, Asia Pacific Region, Linna will bridge the connection between China and Silicon Valley and contribute to the community with the international perspective.

Linna graduated from Tsinghua University and received her MBA in Design Strategy from California College of the Arts.

Outside of work, Linna loves to explore the cities and stories and try something new.

Lulu Guo

Director of Marketing

Lulu joined CHAIN in 2014 as an event manager. Later she was also responsible for the online marketing of the 2015 Smart City Smart Life Summit held in Hangzhou, China.

Lulu has 8 years of experience in business analysis and currently is an IT project manager. Lulu holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a master’s degree in Information Management & Systems from UC Berkeley.

In her spare time, Lulu enjoys traveling and drawing/painting.

Omar Wang

Senior Event Manager, Interim Director of Event Management

Omar has more than 20 years of experience in sales, marketing, business development area and his most recent position was Global Director, OEM Business with Covidien, one of the largest medical device companies in the world. Previously, Omar worked with HP, Agilent, Philips, and JNJ for many years.

Within CHAIN, Omar worked with Event team for a while and now with focusing on event going forward.

Omar holds a Medical degree from Shanghai Second Medical School, and an MBA from MSU.

Yangyang Pan

Program Manager

As a Non Volatile Memory(NVM) technologist at Fusion-io(Acquired by Sandisk), Yangyang has strong interests and passion about innovation and entrepreneurship, especially in the area of big data applications with high performance enterprise Solid State Drive Storage system.

Yangyang holds a B.Eng. degree in Electrical Engineering (Automatic Control) from Zhejiang University and a PhD in Electrical and Computer System Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), NY. His research focused on high performance solid state drive system with 10+ peer-reviewed publications and he has served as reviewers of IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems II, IEEE Transactions on Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) Systems, IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design of Integrated Circuits and Systems and IEEE Transactions on Computers. He also served as the President of Chinese Student and Scholar Association of RPI from 2010 to 2011.

A natual business development professional and a passionate alliance relationship manager with 3 years of experience advising drug development strategies for top 10 pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.

Xiao holds a PhD in Biochemistry from the Case Western University.




Shijing Yao

Former Director of Business Development (2012-2013)

Shijing Yao works in OmniVision Technologies as an Analog IC Designer. He develops CMOS Image Sensor chip solutions for consumer products such as smartphones and tablets. He also has experiences in complex low-noise electronic system design for semiconductor inspection equipment.

Shijing has served project lead for many non-profit organizations in Bay Area. As a member of CHAIN, he is currently working on coordinating, marketing and hosting entrepreneurial events.

Shijing received M.S. in Electrical Engineering from UC Berkeley in 2010. Prior to that, he graduated from Tsinghua University with his bachelor’s degree.

Zhiyong Zhao

Former EVP, Strategic Initiative

Zhiyong currently serves as business lead for a Stanford startup. Previously an account manager for a global IT services company and having taken the leadership role in numerous startups, Zhiyong is a business professional with 12+ years of experience in new product development, product/program management, business development, strategic planning, and sales and marketing.

Zhiyong is passionate about entrepreneurship and innovation. He was an entrepreneur consultant when attending Ross School of Business, servicing the University of Michigan community. He is also a winner of 12 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) awards granted by the US government.

At CHAIN, Zhiyong is leading the business development and strategic initiatives to expand our reach serving greater audience, provide more resources to our members, and build stronger connection within the community.

Zhiyong holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of South Florida and an MBA from the University of Michigan.

Jianghanhan Li

Former Director, Marketing & Branding

Jianghanhan Li serves as the marketing director at CHAIN, and she is responsible for marketing, branding, and event.

Previously she interned as a media & advertising associate at The Townsend Group: Association Ad Sales. In 2014, Jianghanhan graduated as a marshal student from Penn State with a bachelor’s degree in international communications and statistics. At college she was extensively involved with research projects on HCI and Internet of Things.

She is passionate about Internet, information technology for development, entrepreneurship, and psychology. She is also curious about cosmology and astronomy. She enjoys philosophy, classical music, dancing, and swimming.

Louis Zheng

Former Program Manager

Louis joined CHAIN core team since 2014, responsible for marketing and BD.

Also, Louis is working as a marketing strategist at MoWeather. And previously, he has working experience in non-profit and education industry. Louis is also an entrepreneur and started The TA Project in 2011, an education program designed for college students to engage in critical thinking and sharing of ideas.

Louis is holding MBA and M.S.Finance dual degree.

Qiyue Zou

Former VP of Operations (2011-2012)

Qiyue received the B.Eng. and M.Eng. degrees in electrical and electronic engineering from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, in 2001 and 2004, respectively, and the M.A. degree in mathematics and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), in 2008.

From February 2001 to September 2004, he was with the Centre for Signal Processing of NTU, working on statistical and array signal processing. From August 2008 to April 2009, he was with the WiLinx Corporation, San Diego, CA, working on ultrawideband communications. Since April 2009, he has been with the Marvell Semiconductor, Inc., Santa Clara, CA, working on signal processing for data storage IC. His research interests include signal processing and digital communications.

Qiyue received the Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors’ Special Silver Award in 2001 and the Young Author Best Paper Award from the IEEE Signal Processing Society in 2007. He has published more than 30 technical papers in the fields of signal processing and digital communications, and has filed 10 US patents in the field of magnetic read channel.

Baolu Shen

Former Program Manager

Baolu is a product manager at Intuit. She graduated from Northwestern University in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering and engineering design. Things Baolu is passionate about: human-centered design, mobile, payments, Kickstarter, soccer, and anything outdoorsy.



John Li

Former Program Manager

John is currently employed at Google Search as a data scientist. He has extensive experiences in applied statistics, big data analytics and statistical machine learning. He is also very passionate about innovation and entrepreneurship.

John received his Ph.D. in biostatistics from the University of Michigan and his B.E. in computer software engineering from Xiamen University. He enjoys traveling and exploring new things, playing tennis, and many outdoor activities.
